Costs involved:

When a house is cleared there are many costs associated with the job and vary depending on the items cleared.

Many Recycling Centres across the UK operate a strict policy which must be followed when dealing with household waste that most people are not aware of.

Some things need cleared in a safe way theses include but are not restricted to:

• Asbestos

• Pesticides

• Fluorescent tubes

• Oils

• Some paints

• Some household and car batteries

• Electrical equipment like TVs and computer monitors, fridges and freezers

• Energy saving light bulbs (also known as CFLs)

• Mattresses

• Plasterboard

• Car tyres

Due to recent changes made at recycling centres nationwide there is now a charge for the disposal of plasterboard and mattresses as such they cannot be treated as general waste.

When considering the cost of a house clearance many factors must be taken into account:

So the cost to you on average is skip hire about £150 plus £30 if it needs to be placed on the public land. Time taken to fill skip is 3 hours (average) plus turnaround time (that’s the time it takes from you ringing the skip hire company and them coming with a new skip). There is no average here after speaking to several different company’s not one were able to giveus a definite answer, The best time was within 3 hour’s ranging to within 3 days !!!

A skip is about 4 cubic meters or to put it into real terms 1 cubic metre is about the size of a single kitchen cupboard.

1 skip = £150 (£30)

3 hours to fill skip at £6.50 per hour (NMW) =£19.50

3 hours turnaround time at £6.50 per hour (NMW) =£19.50

That’s 4 single kitchen units empty at a cost of £190 (£220)
