Dacorum Borough Council are warning residents that Incorrectly leaving waste at Dacorum’s recycling points could risk a fly tipping offence and a fine of up to £5000,
the borough council is warning after a spate of what it calls unsightly dumping’s.
Warning residents to make sure their waste is disposed of properly or risk being fined.
The recycling banks are located throughout the borough, but due to recent changes residents are finding the recycling points full, yet officers are blaming the issue on the abuse of such services by people who are leaving their recycling on the ground the relevant containers provided. One local resident who chose not to be named said “since the recycling has changed the bins have been getting fuller quicker, I’m not sure when they empty them but seems like it can be weeks at a time, people then start leaving their recycling in bags next to the full bins the next thing you know the bags are ripped open rubbish every where and I think people are seeing it as a bit of a free for all and leaving their rubbish there”. According to the authority, this has resulted in the sites looking untidy and becoming a magnet for fly-tippers who are leaving other unwanted rubbish.
New sign-age erected warns residents that they will liable for prosecution and fined up to £5000 or issued with a Fixed Penalty Notice of £75 for littering offences. If they do not use the bins correctly. Nicholas Egerton, the authority’s team leader for environmental protection and housing, said: “When recycling and any other type of waste is left inappropriately, it can be classed as fly-tipping which is the illegal dumping of waste.”
Patrols of the sites will now be taken up by the borough council’s enforcement officers, who promise to take action against offenders.
